Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth, who got a first-round bye, entered the Hong Kong Open Super 500 quarter-finals on Thursday.

Kidambi Srikanth Indian shuttler entered the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Super 500 after beating compatriot Sourabh Verma in the men's singles on Thursday.

In the game that lasted more than an hour, Srikanth defeated Verma 21-11, 15-21, 21-19.

Srikanth avoided the potential first round exit here when he got bye against world champion Kinto Momota when he withdrew from the tournament.

Srikanth has been struggling with his form recently, as he also fell among the top 10 rankings in the BWF rating and slipped to 13th in the last update in the rankings.

In another men's singles match, HS Prannoy fell out from the Hong Kong Open after losing to the world's number 6 Jonatan Christie in straight games. Prannoy was overtaken 12-21, 19-21 by his Indonesian opponent.

Previously, the bronze medalist in London, Saina Nehwal, suffered by being eliminated in the first round after losing to Cai Yan Yan in just 30 minutes.

The Chinese girl, who had knocked out Saina Nehwal from Fuzhou China Open last week, won another successive game (21-13, 22-20)

PV Sindhu participated in the second round of the Hong Kong Open with a 21-15 and 21-16 win over Kim Ga Eun of Korea in the first round. In the men's singles, HS Prannoy also moved into the second round where he will face the Indonesian Jonathan Christie.
