IPL: Kings XI Punjab trade Ashwin to Delhi Capitals

By pitchhigh | Nov 08, 2019

The Eleventh Kings of Punjab Ravichandran Ashwin exchanged to Delhi Capitals on Thursday for 1.5 crore rupees and Karnataka Spinner Jagadeesha Suchith, ending a series of intense negotiations on the future of the IPL.

In addition to Suchith, KXIP also asked Delhi to adjust New Zealand's pacemaker Trent Boult as part of Ashwin's compensation, but this was not achieved.

"Everyone is happy with this agreement. We are happy and Ashwin is happy and Delhi is happy," said KXIP owner Ness Wadia. "We had talks with three teams, but we finally reached that conclusion. We wish Ashwin the best."

Ashwin is expected to receive 7.6 million rupees, worth his auction, from Delhi.

An official announcement will be issued before the IPL transfer window closes on 14 November.

Under the leadership of Ashwin, KXIP showed a lot of promise in the first half of the last two seasons before losing momentum in the second half. It finished seventh in 2018 and sixth in 2019.

The surprise player, who only plays a form for India, returned to a strong comeback in a series of tests at home against South Africa after impressing the bench in the West Indies, where Ravindra Jadeja (spinner) was in the playing eleven.

KXIP reached the semi-finals of the inaugural version of IPL in 2008 before reaching the playoffs only once in 2014 when it finished second. Now with the legendary Anil Kumble as coach, the franchise aims to end the wave of titles.
