WORLD WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP 2019

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) is a permanent non-profit organization that organizes the World Weightlifting Championships, a 3-day event for weightlifting tournaments. The event will commence from 16th September and will end on 25th September 2019.

HISTORY

It was first held in March 1891 in London, the United Kingdom with only 7 athletes from the 6 countries mentioned. The competitors where champions from Hamburg, England, Vienna, Italy, Brussels, and Berlin attending the three-day event. Edward Lawrence Levy from England won the very first World Weightlifting Championship.

The weightlifting tournaments held during the Summer Olympics from 1964 to 1984 are counted as World Weightlifting Championships of the corresponding year.

A separate championship was added for  Womens in 1987 and combined event held for both mens and womens categories since 1991.

Currently the event has 15 weight categories 8 for men and 7 for women. In the mens categories, 56 kg is the lightest and +105 kg the heaviest while the womens categories, 48 kg the lightest and +75 kg for the heaviest.

Overall, the most successful countries have been China, Soviet Union and Bulgaria.

ORGANISERS

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), headquartered in Budapest, is the international governing body for the sport of Olympic weightlifting. The IWF was founded in 1905, and has 187 member nations. The IWF president is Tams Ajn of Hungary.

Originally called the Fdration Haltphile International (FHI), it changed its name to IWF between the 1972 and 1976 Summer Olympics.

Eligibility

Participating Athletes must be born between 2006 and 2002. In accordance with Article 5.6.5 of the IWF Anti- Doping Policy an Athlete who is not listed on the IMF's Registered Testing Pool but wishes to participate in an IWF Event shall provide accurate and complete whereabouts information as set out in Annex I of the International Standard for Testing and Investigations for a period of at least three months (Youth World Championships) prior to the event in question. An Athlete who does not comply with this provision is not eligible to compete at the IWF Event. Athletes who wish to compete at the IWF Youth World Championships shall submit their whereabouts information for the period outlined above at the latest on 8 DECEMBER 2018.

Men: 49kg / 55kg / 61kg / 67kg / 73kg / 81kg / 89kg / 96kg / 102kg / +102kg

Women: 40kg / 45kg / 49kg / 55kg / 59kg / 64kg / 71kg / 76kg / 81kg / +81kg

Awards

Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded in the Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and the Total in each body weight category. Trophies will be awarded to the best six teams respectively for both Mens and Womens competitions in accordance with IWF Team Classification. The Organizing Committee shall award Best Lifter Titles in the Mens and Womens events
