FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021 in Cortina confirmed

At the last meeting of the FIS Council on May 25, 2020, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) submitted a request to postpone the World Championships until the 2022 season due to the massive shock of the Covid-19 outbreak. The city of Cortina and the Italian region of Veneto were among the first and hardest hit, with unprecedented financial ramifications for the local and national business community and the general population.Since the request, the FIS family and Infront's commercial and media rights holders have gathered with the broadcasters, sponsors, and partners to support the Italian Winter Sports Federation, and have actively collaborated to find a solution so that del Mundo Cortina 2021 can be staged as originally scheduled."We are pleased that we were able to find a solution whereby the FIS Cortina 2021 Alpine Ski Championship will be held during the originally scheduled period in February 2021, to replace it as one of the most prominent events in the winter calendar in the FIS," the FIS said. "The last month of efforts to find this solution demonstrates the strong collaborative spirit of the ski family and relevant stakeholders to enable this important decision to be made."“FISI has worked closely over the past five years with all stakeholders participating in the World Championships in Cortina,” said FISI President Flavio Roda. “After speaking with them in recent weeks, it was evident that there was a strong desire to implement the event in 2021 and put all available resources into ensuring that the World Championships are held at the highest level. Building on these comments and the clear commitment from all parties, FISI expressed to the FIS Board the importance of These world championships to be presented in 2021 as a positive sign for the entire country of Italy.The FIS Alpine Ski World Championships is a very important event for the International Skating Federation and its member national ski associations during the two-year cycle, as well as for its many stakeholders.
