Royal competitors Bangalore and Australian driver Daniel Sams have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The first test was negative, but positive in the second test. Evolution two days before the first match of IPL 2021, where he will face RCB the defending champions from Mumbai Indians.

The BCCI Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) states that a player who tests positive for COVID-19 must be isolated in the designated area outside of a biosecurity environment for at least 10 days from the first day of symptom onset or the date of sample collection. Resulting in a positive RT-PCR report, whichever comes first.

"During the 10-day isolation period, the individual should rest and avoid any exercise. The team doctor should monitor the condition periodically. If symptoms worsen during the isolation period, the person should be hospitalized immediately," as stipulated in the SOP.

RCB statement on Daniel Sams:

"Daniel Sams checked into the team hotel in Chennai on April 3, with a negative COVID report on arrival. His report from the second test on April 7 was positive. Sams is currently asymptomatic and is now in isolation at a designated medical facility."

"The Royal Challengers Bangalore Medical Team is in constant contact with Daniel Sams and continues to monitor his health and comply with ICC protocols," he added.

According to BCCI SOPs for IPL 2021, all players (except for those in the India and England series) and support and management personnel entering the bubble must be subject to a seven-day quarantine in their hotel rooms.

All individuals will be tested multiple times during this period, and upon returning negative results, they will be allowed to leave their rooms and begin workouts and outdoor training sessions.

Sams is the fourth player in the IPL 2021 to test positive for COVID-19. Previously, teammates Devudtt Padikkal (RCB), Axar Patel (DC), and Nitish Rana (KKR) have tested positive for the coronavirus. Padikkal's test proves negative while Axar Patel is recovering from COVID-19. On the other hand, Nitesh Rana joined the KKR team in Chennai after testing negative for COVID-19 twice.

Several cases of COVID-19 emerged prior to the IPL. From the ground crew at Mumbai Wankedi Stadium to the camera crew, many people participating in the league have tested positive for the Coronavirus, causing an alarming situation before the start of the season.
