Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday announced that Sanjay Bangar will take over as the head coach of the Indian Premier League franchise for the next 2 years. Bangar will replace former Australia opener Simon Katich as the head coach of RCB.
Sanjay Bangar, who worked as a batting coach of Team India with Ravi Shastri, was with RCB as their batting consultant during IPL 2021. Notably, Mike Hesson will continue as the Director of Cricket. The former New Zealand coach doubled as the head coach after Katich withdrew from the second half of cricket ipl 2021 due to personal reasons.
RCB will be heading into a new era as Virat Kohli has already stepped down as captain after their run to the play-offs in IPL 2021. The India batting star said he would continue to play for RCB. Ahead of the mega auction, Bangar will be working closely with Hesson.
"Our work has already begun in terms of auction strategy. I would like to assure each of the RCB fans that we are committed to building a strong squad and we are committed to fulfilling the long-cherished dream of winning an IPL trophy," Bangar said in a statement.
"It's an honour and great opportunity to serve such a great franchise in the capacity of Head Coach. I have worked with some exceptional and talented members of the squad and can't wait to take this team to the next level.
"There's a lot of work that needs to be done with the IPL Mega Auctions and the season following it, but I'm sure that together with the continued support of the management and the support staff, we can deliver the goods and bring cheer to our fans across the globe," he added.
