Opener KL Rahul reinforced his 84 in the First test with a superb 100 to break India's seven-year-old centuries drought at Lords on Thursday. Rahul became the first Indian after Ajinkya Rahane and the 10th overall to earn a place on the cricket househonors tables.Rahul brought the second hundred of him against England in the 212-ball. Rahul had hit nine boundaries and one six when he reached the three digits.Rahul went head-to-head with England's pace attack and came out with a good hundred, helping his team dominate the game in the final session of opening day.Notably, Rahul also became the second batsman to reach one hundred in the 2021-23 cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. This is KL Rahul's sixth test hundred and his second against England.Rahul leaves all fourth stump delivery and didn't care much about the incoming deliveries and knew where his off stump was and covered the swing. As soon as Rohit left the scene, Rahul upped the ante and ended the opening day with a brilliant sixth hundred.Placed in the position of the Lords, the Indian inaugural pair of KL Rahul (55 hits from 143balls)and Rohitnegated cloudy conditions on a good batting surface during the away team's inaugural track in the first century since the 2007 Tour. After negotiating two deliveries that went away. Rohit was surprised with one that came in, much to Anderson's delight, who overcame a close quartet to retain his place on the team. Anderson struck again in the 50th over when Cheteshwar Pujara fell to nine after edging outswinger to Jonny Bairstow on the third slip to leave the visitors at 150-2. But Rahul raised the scoring rate after Rohit's departure and ignited his half century.England, without seamer Stuart Broad due to a torn right calf, called up Haseeb Hamid, Moen Ali, Mark Wood, Zach Crowley and Dan Lawrence. Also Read- Neeraj Chopra rises to second spot in world rankings after Olympic gold
England's Ole Robinson knocked out India's captain Virat Kohli at the end of the first day of second test, calling the precious wicket the greatest of his fledgling career.Fresh from his five-wicket haul in first opening test at Trent Bridge, Robinson cleared Kohli (42) who edged it to Joe Root on the first slip after taking the second fresh ball.Virat is probably mybiggest wicket so far, so I was happy with that. It was a great moment. The plan was always for him to bowl the fourth-fifth stump line, back of the length. Fortunately, the plan worked, said Robinson. After the stumps on Thursday.KL Rahul remained undefeated at 127wielding his bat from the first ball to the end, while his great opening partner Rohit Sharma played fluently before going out for 83, his best score in overseas test to lead India 276-3 on day one after Root opted to bowl. Robinson praised the efforts of opposing hitters for their efforts, but also felt his team was unlucky. "There were probably 10-15 hits and misses that he could count and another day we could have had it two or three earlier." "We definitely looked at the circumstances and thought we could get some of them early here. I think on another day it (wickets) might have happened. "I felt we did a good performance," he said. "We worked hard against their batters and to be fair they played very well. Dense clouds in the morning delayed the start of the game, as Root was quick to choose a bowling game to take advantage of the conditions, which did not happen. When asked if the field was letting them down, he said: "We expected the field to be a little bit faster, a little bit smoother.’’ Obviously, it's a little bit slow. "The swing was a bit inconsistent; I don't know if it was the ball or the overhead. We decided to swing a bit, which we felt was a good plan, but the wicket was a bit slow on that and not as responsive as we think it might be. " Stuart Broad's absence (a torn calf) meant that Robinson shared the new ball with paceman James Anderson and said he was ready to take on the challenge. "It has been a privilege to share the new ball with Jimmy’’. I have shown in the last two games that I am ready to work when it arrives," he signed the exit. Also Read: Neeraj Chopra rises to second spot in world rankings after Olympic gold

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to groom KL Rahul to be India's next captain.Gavaskar wants to appoint KL Rahul as T20 vice-captain for India, with Rohit Sharma appointed as captain after Virat Kohli decided to leave the captaincy after the T20 World Cup.“It's a good thing that the BCCI is looking ahead. It's important to think ahead,” said Sunil Gavaskar“If India are looking to groom a new captain, then KL Rahul can be looked at. He has performed well. Even now in England, his batting was very good. He has been performing well in IPL and 50-overs cricket as well at the international stage. He can be made vice-captain,” said Gavaskar.Gavaskar praised Karnataka's batsman for his quality of leadership shown in the IPL. Rahul is the captain of Punjab Kings in the IPL.Also Read- Virat Kohli to step down as India T20 captain after World Cup“He has shown very impressive leadership qualities in the IPL. He hasn’t let the burden of captaincy affect his batting. His name can be taken into consideration,” said Gavaskar. The 34-year-old Rohit is Kohli's deputy in the white ball formats and is likely to take the lead role when India meets New Zealand in a home series in November that will feature three T20 Internationals along with two Test matches.Current head coach Ravi Shastri and the tenure of the support staff are coming to an end with the T20 World Cup and as things stand, there are indications that they won't seek an extension.“There is a CAC that will make the decision. If you want to think about the new coach, then you can’t keep talking to the captain. Yes, there needs to be an understanding between the captain and the coach. But you can’t ask a student who his principal or professor can be,” said Gavaskar. Also Read- ICC mens T20I rankings: Indian captain Virat Kohli moves to No 4, KL Rahul retains sixth spot
On paper, Punjab Kings and the Rajasthan Royals have more than a few things in common in the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both affected by the withdrawal of players and locked at six points each, the two teams will look to revive their falling campaign during their clash at Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.Wicketkeeper captains KL Rahul and Sanju Samson comfortably sit among the top six scorers of the tournament, but their individual efforts have left no impact on their team's performances so far. With the odds stacked against them in their 14th attempt to lift the elusive trophy, Punjab Kings will hope for their coach Anil Kumble and the leadership group to get their campaign back on track. Also Read- Virat Kohli to quit RCB captaincy after the end of IPL 2021 seasonDuring his playing career, Kumble had back India from the clutches of defeat on numerous occasions. With the former India captain name doing the rounds for a second stint as head coach of the national team once Ravi Shastri completes his tenure after the T20 World Cup, the legendary leg-spinner will look to prove his mettle as a franchise coach. Before his fallout with Virat Kohli, Kumble had coached India to the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final. However, his brief tenure as coach of the Punjab Kings has yet to produce the desired results. The Mohali-based franchise finished sixth in 2020 and is currently at the same spot midway into the IPL 2021 season.Tuesday's competition will be more about what kinds of starts can be made by the top order players on both sides. As for the Kings, Rahul and Mayank are expected to open with Chris Gale providing just the right momentum to their innings at No.3.Prabhsimran Singh is another exciting prospect at the top of the order in case he gets into the XI. The middle order will be manned by Mandeep Singh, M Shahrukh Khan and a toss-up between new recruit Aiden Markram and West Indian Nicholas Pooran, eager to get over a nightmarish first phase, where he got four ducks.Leg-spin remains Punjab's forte and the addition of experienced campaigner Adil Rashid, alongside the India pair of Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin, could come in handy in UAE conditions. The withdrawals of Riley Meredith and Jhye Richardson means Mohammed Shami is set to be partnered by either Chris Jordan or Nathan Ellis. Left-armer Arshdeep Singh's improved death bowling will also strengthen his case.Similarly for the Rajasthan, a lot will depend on the start provided by power-hitters Liam Livingston and Evin Lewis. Coming to the IPL after some sensational performances in "The Hundred" for Birmingham Phoenix, Livingston will be excited to stretch his run, while at the same time his skills will be tested against a high-quality leg-spin.Weakened by the withdrawal of Ben Stokes, Joss Butler and Jofra Archer, Rajasthan hope that their Indian Players like Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag, Jaydev Unadkat and Chetan Sakariya to turn the tide. Also Read- Pakistan vs New Zealand: Entire tour called off due to security concerns minutes before 1st ODI
India Test captain Virat Kohli missed the second Test match of the three-match series against South Africa at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on January 3, 2022. Instead, Kuala Lumpur Rahul led the Indian team, who was appointed as their deputy. In the absence of Captain Rohit Sharma, who is absent from the series due to injury.Virat Kohli led the Indian team to a famous test win in the opening match at Supersport Park in Centurion, which India won by 113 runs to lead the series 1-0. Kohli's centuries streak and low scores continued in Test 1 as well, scoring just 35 and 18 points in the two rounds at Centurion.Commentators were curious how and why Virat Kohli wasn't ready for the launch and instead KL Rahul went on to launch with South African captain Dean Elgar in the middle. KL Rahul won the lottery and decided to hit first and the first question was asked about Virat Kohli and why he wasn't this brilliant captain and legendary hitter in match XI."Unfortunately, Virat has experienced a lower back contracture and is expected to recover for the next test," KL Rahul was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying. The dream of every Indian player is to be the captain of his country. We are really honored and looking forward to this challenge. We've had some good victories here and hopefully, we can continue like this. Hanuma Vihari has replaced Virat. Only one change. All in all, it was a good test on Centurion. We did well as a team and we are very excited about this match.”Virat Kohli was due to play his 100th test match in Cape Town for the third match of the series and now, with Johannesburg out of the test match, his 100th test match will likely be played in front of a home crowd when hosts India Sri Lanka. NEW DELHI: With Lucknow Super Giants virtually out of contention for the IPL playoffs, KL Rahul's position as the team's captain hangs in uncertainty for the remaining two games following their heavy defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. It's widely believed that the LSG skipper, signed for a record Rs 17 crore before the 2022 auction, won't be retained ahead of the mega auctions in 2025.However, there are rumors suggesting that he might voluntarily step down to focus on his batting in the upcoming matches. There is a five-day gap before the next game against DC. As of now, no decision has been taken but it is understood that if Rahul plans to just concentrate on his batting for the remaining two games, the management won't mind," an IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.Following Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Travis Head (89 not out off 30 balls) and Abhishek Sharma (75 off 28 balls) reaching the target of 167 in less than 10 overs, videos surfaced on social media showing an agitated conversation between LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul. This was after the LSG batters struggled to get going on the same track in Hyderabad.Worse, Rahul's (29 off 33 balls) batting in the Powerplay has been one of the biggest reasons for LSG's below-par show in the cash-rich league and it seems that Goenka has finally run out of patience. The India star has scored 460 runs in 12 games and could again cross the 500-run mark for the season but it is his strike-rate of 136.09 which is the problem.LSG are still mathematically in contention as they can reach 16 points by winning their remaining two games -- vs Delhi Capitals in New Delhi on May 14 and vs Mumbai Indians at Wankhede on May 17.However, it will be very difficult to massively improve upon the net run-rate (-0.760).In case, Rahul decides to step down, vice-captain Nicholas Pooran, easily the team's most impactful batter in the season, is likely to take over for the remaining two games. Also Read: ICC names Yuvraj Singh as brand ambassador for T20 World Cup 2024
