With MS Dhoni saying he will not discuss his international future until January, former batsman VVS Laxman feels that veteran Wicketkeeper is preparing for IPL 2020 and will take a call after the T20 Championship.HIGHLIGHTSLaxman awaits the return of Dhoni as long as he has a good performance in IPLDhoni hasn't played international cricket since the 2019 World CupDhoni said  that he wants to be left alone until January 2020Former Indian VVS Laxman feels that MS Dhoni can return if young Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson do not take advantage of the opportunities that arise in the near future.VVS Laxman said, MS Dhoni would relate to his international future after the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2020. He added that Dhoni could be seen in international cricket if he plays well for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).The future of Dhoni's International Cricket has become intense speculation since the  World Cup-winning former captain has not played since the 2019 World Cup.Dhoni was not available for the West Indies tour and took an educational license during which he trained with the Para Regiment in the Indian army. Nor he was a part of India's limited-overs team for series against South Africa and Bangladesh. While the images of his Ranchi training raised expectations of an early return, Dhoni was not named in the T20I and ODI squads for the next series against the West Indies at home.“I think MS Dhoni will wait patiently to see the performance of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson."If these two young people do not take advantage of their opportunity, it can be believed that MS Dhoni can return considering he performs well in the IPL that leads to the World Cup.""At this time, Rishabh Pant will be the first option, and his back up will be Sanju Samson, and if these two boys do not take advantage of the opportunities given to them, then we may be able to look at MS Dhoni, considering how he performs in IPL." Meanwhile, Dhoni broke the silence about his international return at a promotional event in Mumbai on Wednesday. "January tak mat poocho (don't ask me till January)," said Dhoni.

IPL auction: WI, Aus stars in focus but youngsters set to be top draws

The focus will be on swords in West Indies and Australia, but some of the lesser-known youngsters may pull out with big deals at the IPL Player Auction in Kolkata on Thursday, as franchises are expected to limit their spending. The thirteenth edition of the lucrative franchise league will have additional significance because 2020 is the year of the T20 World Cup.With 14 years and 350 days, Noor Ahmed from Afghanistan has become the youngest name in the auction group. The left-arm chinaman, with a base price of Rs 30 lakh, can join players such as Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi to play in the prominent Super League.Noor has been impressive in the recently-launched U19 series against India, where he picked up nine wickets.Among the young Indians, the first player in Mumbai, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Priyam Garg, who lead the U-19 World Cup team in India, will be watched with the spinning of Tamil Nadu, the left arm Tamil Nadu, R Sai Kishore pacemaker from Bengal, Ishan Porel. All have a base price of Rs 20 lakh. For the stars, Shimron Hetmyer, the 22-year-old West Indies hitter who was launched by Royal Challengers Bangalore before the auction, already presented himself with a century from 85 balls in the first ODI vs India in Chennai. The Guyanese southpaw, who has a base price of Rs. 50 lakh, scored the most in the previous T20I series: 120 in three games with a hit rate of 151.89.After buying him at a whopping price of Rs. 4.2 crore last year, Royal Challengers Bangalore allowed batsmen to attack in 2019 IPL.But with three cards available for the right to match, RCB can still exercise the option to keep the player in the model. However, with a larger portfolio, other franchises will target Hetmyer at the first-time auction in Kolkata.Kesrick Williams, from the West Indies, is also expected to set a medium rhythm, which had upset the captain of India Virat Kohli as he is in the T20 International series, offering an intense offer at a base price of Rs 50 lakh. The limited money in a portfolio of most franchises may mean that the bid will not be particularly aggressive for those with a higher base rate. The auction includes five Australians: Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell. The five, along with South Africa's Del Steyn and Sri Lanka Angelo Matthews, are in the top group of Rs. 2 crores.Australian cricket players participating in the World Cup chose not to participate in the 2019 auction, but this time they registered their names keeping in mind the T20 World Cup at home in October. While Mitchell Starc has chosen not to participate this year, it is very likely that Maxwell, Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyn would be considered top players. After hopping two years in a row, Cummins can be a good deal. He had an impressive season for 2017 with 15 wickets at a strike rate of 18.46.However, it remains to be seen how Del Steen and Angelo Matthews will do at a high base price of Rs 2 crore.Steyn was not sold at the previous IPL auction, but Royal Cha Challengers Bangalore agreed to replace Nathan Coulter-Nile. This was not good, as he had an injury that excluded him from the World Cup.Upon entering the auction, RCB off-loaded Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, and Colin de Grandhomme along with nine other players. They are probably the busiest among the teams to fill 10-12 spaces. With the likes of Tim Southee, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood at stake, it will be interesting to see how they'll do it with Rs. 27.90 crore in their portfolio.Among the Indians, Robin Uthappa, former Kolkata Knight Riders vice-captain, who was released by his winning team at IPL, maintained his base price at Rs. 1.5 crores.Currently leading Kerala state on the national circuit, Uthappa has recorded 139 runs in six T20 national championships for Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and it remains to be seen whether the 34-year-old has found any takers.KKR also released Piyush Chawla, and he is among the four bowlers who collected 150 wickets in IPL. The leg-spinner fixture, in addition to the Yusuf Pathan, bears a price tag of Rs 1 crore.Indian test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari, at a base price of Rs 50 lakh, also enter the tender area. Pujara was not sold last year, while Vihari was released by Delhi Capitals. As for the teams, Kings XI Punjab, who is aiming for an elusive title, has the most money to brag about, Rs. 42.70 crore, and is expected to make an extensive offer. With its rocky top arrangement, KXIP looks very dependent on Mohammed Shami as a quick bowling option. They can search for a spinner to fill the void left by Captain R Ashwin's exit.Funds with franchises:CSK: Rs 14.60 crore, Delhi Capitals: Rs 27.85 crore, KXIP: Rs 42.70 crore, KKR: Rs 35.65 crore, MI: Rs 13.05 crore, RR: Rs 28.90 crore, RCB: Rs 27.90 crore, SRH: Rs 17 crore.Read More: Vivo IPL 2020 Schedule: Full Schedule Of VIVO IPL 2020,IPL Schedule,Time Table,Fixture,Team Squad,Dates,Venues,Point Table,Live Match,Tickets

Aussie players made merry, raking in the big bucks at the IPL 2020 players’ auction in Kolkata on Thursday. In a fierce competition between eight franchises, struggling to collect the best possible teams, Australians emerged as the most dominant number.Of the 338 players who fell under the hammer, 62 were sold at the auction table in Kolkata. The Eight franchises combined spent Rs 140.3 crore with Australian cricketers such as Pat Cummins and Glenn Maxwell attracting big deals. In the list of the most expensive five players at the auction, three were Australians.Below is a list of the five major purchases at the IPL 2020 Auction.Pat Cummins (Bought by KKR for Rs 15.50 Crore)Pacer Pat Cummins was the subject of the conversation in the city, as he became the most expensive foreign purchase in the history of IPL. Cummins got a massive offer of Rs. 15.50 crore from twice-winner Kolkata Knight Riders when they broke the previous record for Ben Stokes, which Rising Pune Supergiant bought for Rs. 14.5 crore at the 2017 auction. After a fierce three-way war of rivalries, KKR surpassed Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore to buy the number one test bowler in the world.Cummins was part of the Kolkata team in 2014 and 2015 and played for the last time in the Delhi Capital in 2017. The Mumbai Indians picked him up in the following season, but was excluded with a back injury."I thought he was the best player of the auction as a cricketer, he's grown, his body has become robust. He is now the vice-captain of the Australia cricket team, which is a mark of his development. Wonderful to secure a world-class player," said Brendon McCallum, KKR coach after buying Cummins.Glenn Maxwell (Bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 10.75 Crore)Glenn Maxwell's international break didn't bother because of the mental health difficulties, as they struggled to buy expensive offroads. It ended up with Maxwell receiving Rs. 10.75 crore, becoming the second most expensive purchase at the auction and would represent KingsXI Punjab in the next 2020 IPL release. Maxwell recently returned from break and is currently playing with the stars of Melbourne in the Big Bash League.Chris Morris (Bought by RCB for Rs 10 Crore)In one of the great surprises of the auction, the South African realist Chris Morris was taken over by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a large sum of Rs 10 crore. With a base price of Rs 1.5 crore, Morris made big profits, as the franchises were looking for a powerful and impressive all-rounder. Rajasthan Royals showed initial interest in buying Morris, but then RCB and Kings XI Punjab got into a bidding war when RR remained behind. When the numbers suddenly increased, the Mumbai Indians also threw their hat into the ring, but the RCB finally packed Morris for a whopping sum of Rs 10 crore.Sheldon Cottrell (Bought by Kings Xi Punjab for Rs 8.5 Crore)The major cricket show "Cottrell Salute" will feature in the next release, as the left pacemaker attracted first-time buyers at IPL. Astonishing performance in the shortest format for Windies helped him catch the attention of the franchise when they went to the auction war. Finally, the Kings XI Punjab won a three-way battle that also included the Delhi Capitals and the Rajasthan Royals. The Punjab-based franchise had to spend Rs 8.5 crore to purchase the Cottrell, making him the fourth-highest auction purchase."Very happy to have Cottrell on board," said  Ness Wadia, owner at KXIP.Nathan Coulter-Nile (Bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 8 Crore)Australian Nathan Coulter-Nile completed the list of the five main purchases at the IPL 2020 auction, after Indian defenders Mumbai Indians purchased him for Rs. 8 crores. In a fierce battle with runner-up Chennai Super Kings last year, MI had to pay a large sum to take over Western Australian. After a great international year followed by some good performances in the domestic circuit, Coulter-Nile caught the headlines at the auction.Read More: Vivo IPL 2020 Schedule: Full Schedule Of VIVO IPL 2020

BCCI says T20 tournament not possible with travel restrictions on, reopening of stadiums not enoughAlthough the  Home Ministry’s nod to reopen the sports fields, the BCCI is not considering organizing the Indian Premier League at this time. According to BCCI Arun Dhumal, no plan in place for this year's IPL contract, provided there are restrictions on international and domestic travel."IPL is not possible at this time because there are still travel restrictions. How can you have an IPL without any trip happening? We are studying these guidelines and we will also study state government guidelines. Accordingly, we will plan."On Sunday, the Ministry of  Home Affairs MHA) issued guidelines indicating that sports stadiums can open without an audience. Sports complexes and stadiums are allowed to open; but the MHA notice said, "Viewers will not be allowed."Dhumal agreed that this paved the way for cricketers to resume outdoor training individually. Domestically, crickets can go to stadiums and resume training outdoors. Dhumal  said, "The whole team cannot be united because the players are scattered."Any useful discussion about IPL is known to only begin in August. But finding a window is still a problem. According to an official at the International Chamber of Commerce, although a section of IPL cricket managers and stakeholders seem to have considered that the postponement of the T20 World Cup in Australia, scheduled for October and November, may not be an open and closed case. The World Cup T20 is an event for the International Criminal Court. "It will bring revenue to the world organization and the International Criminal Court will do its best to organize the tournament on time," he said. After locked them in for nearly 54 days, the new Home Office guidelines are a glimmer of hope for elite athletes at the country's major sports institutes, where they can now resume training. However, those outside the SAI campus may have to wait until at least June, as they may have to go through a quarantine period before being able to train at the centers.Athletes urged the government to allow them to train, and those on campus complained of nostalgia. An Indian Sports Authority (SAI) official has not waived when athletes will be able to resume training, but it is already known that those on their campus are: hockey teams in Bangalore, while some in athletics and weightlifting in Patiala, will receive Green signal this week.Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju held online meetings with athletes from these three sports last week and said that there would be a gradual resumption of training, with priority given to those already in the SAI centers. These athletes will have to follow the strict protocols and guidelines for the social distance set by the supreme monitor and their unions.Read More: When I go to bat my heart rate is upraised, I feel the pressure - DhoniArticle source: https://indianexpress.com/
